Report from Radiokerry.ie

Petitions are being signed by residents in the Deerpark Road to preserve an old tree that may be knocked to allow for new traffic calming measures proposed by Killarney Town Council. Cllr Donal Grady is objecting to the removal of the tree and he is calling on the council to amend the plans.

A roundabout is proposed at the junction of Deerpark Road, Gaelscoil Road and the road north of Tesco shopping centre to the Retail Park. The town council says the existing oak tree will have to be removed in order to accommodate the work, but it intends planting another ten oak trees in the vicinity of the junction. The proposals will be sent for public consultation in the coming weeks.
