It was reported in today’s Independent that Irish Water wants to apply a standing charge of €100 per annum for just having the water supply come into your home.  This gives Irish Water a guaranteed income as it will not be linked to water usage.

Some of the keys items in the report:

€300 is the expected average bill

Standing change is expected to be 33% of the average bill, it can be as low as 10% is other countries.

Irish Water still has not made any submissions regarding the cost per litre for usage charges or what the free allocation will be.

No doubt the government will wait until after the local elections before releasing the costs, so why not ask the candidates from the government parties about this issue when they come knocking.
