Kerry County Council should look for locations to place a skateboard park in Killarney.

Councillor Donal Grady proposed a motion at the recent monthly meeting of the Killarney Municipal District, asking the council to examine the idea.

He says the benefits associated with a dedicated skateboarding park are numerous, including the exercise provided by the endeavour, and that the council owes it to the young people of the area.

Councillor Grady believes there are many locations in and around the town of Killarney that could be converted, with low costs attached.

In response, Kerry County Council says there is currently no funding stream available for the development of a skate park.

The council add if funds become available in the future, they could examine the proposal further.
